Yesterday was an exciting day for a climate deal. There is a draft on the table for action–one that lays out a path, a real direction for moving nations on a common path to a lower carbon economy. The folks from Nature are on the ground there providing some great tools for us to follow. As they note, there are things to work through for the next week and for years to come. But at least we have a document to actually work with. Will we get a binding agreement out of it?
Ban Ki-Moon also addressed the conference yesterday. He said, “Last, and certainly not least, civil society is mobilizing as never before. Citizens, youth, indigenous peoples and faith leaders around the world are demanding action.” That’s true. And we are pushing open every door, shaking every hand, shoving aside our opponents, and singing loud. We need a real deal to effectively get to zero.
