Tonight, I resigned from the Sierra Club Moshannon group’s Executive Committee. This evening, the Nittany Valley Water Coalition approached the excomm to solicit a donation for their lawsuit against Ferguson Township regarding the proposed Toll Brothers Cottages development (backtrack here). Given my position as a Ferguson supervisor, I recused myself from the discussion and any voting for a donation because it would present a conflict of interest. But given the possible length of litigation and continued interest in the Sierra Club Moshannon group supporting the lawsuit, I thought it best to remove all possibilities of conflicts of interest and resign as a voting member of the excomm. I remain a member of the Sierra Club, believe in its mission to explore, enjoy, and protect the natural world, and will stay on as the Environmental Justice and Global Warming/Climate Change chairs for the group.
